Each an Island

I have never been outside this country,
but I have traveled outside myself
and into the lives of others.

I have experienced that which is strictly foreign.

I have borrowed freely, and necessarily;
for though I will always be an island,
such glimpses provide the light by which
I build out the shoreline of my mind.
